Local jazz musician, Terrell Edwards, opens for internationally acclaimed “Ambrosia” at The Canyon this week.
The Canyon’s latest show will feature a performance from “Ambrosia” and include an opening act from Santa Clarita’s very own, Terrell Edwards.
Originally from Milwaukee, Edwards grew up in a family of musicians. After serving as a member in the U.S. Navy, Edwards returned to his musical roots, studying as a vocalist and saxophonist.
With influences from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Kenny Edmonds, Edwards has released two albums including two songs that have reached Billboards Top 200.
Working in Las Vegas, Edwards made a connection that has paid dividends for his music career in the form of Tonight Show Host, Jay Leno, “He’s like my dad,” Edwards said in an interview with Sharon (LAST NAME?). “He changed my life. There’s no question about it.”
Ambrosia began in Los Angeles before becoming internationally recognized.
The group had five top 40 hits from 1975 to 1980, “Right around the eighties, that’s when I started to take notice of some of that great music,” Edwards said. “There’s often a great story behind those hits. They don’t just pop up.”
The rock band has performed with other heralded acts, including The Doobie Brothers and Bruce Hornsby.
Edwards says the group’s rise to fame had a big influence on his own music career, “It was very inspiring. It made a lot of us want to become musicians.”
Edwards is set to perform songs from his first two albums “More Than Conquerors” and “The Living Room”. However, Edwards says that those in attendance will also get a sneak peek at some of his new work as well, “We’ll do a couple of others that no one has heard before,” Edwards said. “So if you’re at The Canyon Club on June 18th, you’re going to get a sneak peak at the new Terrell Edwards album.”
